Introduction
The RestAR app was one of the pioneers in the field of adapting 3d scanning technology for smartphone use, it offers a seamless and rapid solution for scanning various 3D objects using only a mobile phone. Built upon photogrammetry technology, it enables the generation of precise 3D models from a series of photographs captured from different angles.
As Head of Design of the project, I overlooked and single-handedly managed all stages of brand and product design development. In a landscape where such products virtually did not exist, I had to come up with an innovative and effective solution that meets the demand and sets the overall standard for the developing industry.
Logo
The logo embodies a minimalistic style, intentionally blending two symbols: a 3D cube, renowned for its representation of 3D objects, and a point cloud, fundamental to model reconstruction technology.
Design System
The fonts, colors, and design elements were carefully chosen to match current interface needs while also keeping possibilities open for future updates and expansions of the product.
Illustrations
I made a series of static and animated 3D illustrations, which are meant to educate and guide the user on how to properly use the scanning technology.
Onboarding
The quality of the result relies on proper placement and lightning of the object and the scene surrounding it.
I designed the onboarding process to include clear and specific visual instructions on how to set up the equipment, the object, and the scene around it.
The user sees the instruction just before the first scan and then may return to it at any further point of the user journey as the manual button is visible on the screen at all times.
Scanning process
The main goal was to design a solution that simplifies the complexity of the 3D scanning process for users, taking into account various factors that influence the final outcome
Based on user research results we came up with two separate user flow versions:
Standard capture - suitable for most users
Pro capture -Ideal for businesses integrating 3D scanning into their operations.
Classic Capture
Users are required to scan the object from multiple angles, capturing at least 30 images to construct the model with a recommended quantity of 50 or more.
Following the scan, they have the option to review captured images and remove any blurry or cropped ones as needed.
Pro Capture
Entrepreneurs and industries seeking to leverage 3D scanning technology in their business operations required a mode that consistently produces high-quality models and streamlines the scanning process for high production volumes.
Based on thorough analysis of user research data, we engineered a mode that perfectly aligns with these requirements.

The user is required to position the camera on a tripod at an angle ranging from 25 to 45 degrees.
Then, the object should be placed vertically, followed by pressing the capture button and activating the rotating table. The recording will stop automatically.
Repeat the process twice more, this time by placing objects on either side. These steps will allow to construct the bottom part of the object.

3D model processing
Uploading and processing the model may take up to 10 minutes, depending on the model complexity and the server load.
During this time, users can choose to continue scanning.
Progress and estimated reconstruction time are displayed on the main screen within the model card. Upon completion of processing, users receive a silent notification on their phone, which they can easily disable if desired.

View & Share
The finished model is accessible on the main screen, stacked alongside other models.
Users have the option to view the model in augmented reality and share it either as a web viewer link or as a model for use in other softwares.
